About

Yuming Bai, a Class 1 Registered Architect in China, is a building designer with over ten years of experience across architecture, interiors, furniture and landscape. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture from Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology and is completing a Master of Applied Science in Engineering at the University of Northern British Columbia.

His research, supervised by Dr. Jianhui Zhou, focuses on design automation for prefabricated hybrid mass-timber housing. He is developing Chickadee, a Grasshopper / C# plugin that automates mass-timber and light-wood-frame design to NBCC 2020 and CSA O86.

In practice, he worked on interiors and architecture at dot Architects in Beijing, from schematic design through construction documents and site coordination. He then co-founded dotMake, a furniture company that took more than twenty products to production; he is named on 23 of its patents. His 2022 low-carbon homestay scheme received a Silver Award.
